Champlin, Minnesota, was founded in 1852 by Lewis Champlin, a pioneer farmer who came to the area with his family. The small town rapidly grew, and by 1856 it had a population of over 300. The first school in Champlin was built in 1857, and the following year the town was incorporated.

During the Civil War, Champlin served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, helping shelter escaped enslaved people on their journey to freedom. After the war, Champlin continued to grow and prosper, attracting new businesses and industries. Today, the town is a diverse community with a thriving economy.
