Mounds View is located in the former Mounds View Township, which was organized in 1858. The city gets its name from the Twin Cities Arsenal, located in the area. The town was incorporated in 1958, 100 years after Minnesota became a state. Post-World War II growth was partially fueled by the proximity of the Twin Cities Arsenal.
