History of Oregon, Wisconsin
Oregon, Wisconsin, was settled in 1841 by Bartlet Runey, and the first house was constructed in 1843. Initially, the settlement was known as "Rome Corners," and a road south of the village still bears that name. When the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company came through the town in 1864, their maps indicated the word "Oregon," and the name was adopted. The village was incorporated in 1881.
Oregon's downtown district is home to many historical buildings, including the Netherwood Block, the Badger Cycle Company, and the original water tower. The Red Brick School, one of the most different structures in the village, was built in 1922 and served as the high school until it was recently restored. It now houses the business offices for the Gorman Company. Oregon is also home to numerous businesses lining the west side of North and South Main Street.
