History of Monticello, Minnesota
Nestled in the heart of southern Indiana, the small town of Monticello has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The town was first platted in 1854, and a post office soon followed. Monticello officially became a village in 1856. In 1891, the nearby village of Moritzious merged with Monticello, resulting in a population boom. In a commuter exurb, Monticello is approximately 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Minneapolis. It is one of the core cities of the Metropolitan Statistical Area though it is not technically a part of it.

The racial makeup of the city was 92.5% White, 0.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.9% Asian, 2.6% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races.
